Getting to Zakynthos by Sea in 2026
For the 2026 season, Zakynthos is connected by ferry from four mainland ports: Kyllini and Patras in the western Peloponnese, Astakos on the western coast of central Greece, and Igoumenitsa in the northwest. Additionally, seasonal connections link Zakynthos with neighboring Kefalonia for island-hopping.
Main Routes
Kyllini → Zakynthos (Primary Route)
The most popular connection, operated by Levante Ferries, with multiple daily departures year-round. Crossing time is approximately 1 hour. This is the fastest and most frequent option for reaching the island.
Kefalonia → Zakynthos (Island-Hopping)
Seasonal service connecting Pessada (Kefalonia) with Agios Nikolaos (Zakynthos), perfect for travelers combining both Ionian islands in one trip. Service typically operates from May through October.
Patras → Zakynthos
A direct connection from Greece’s third-largest city, convenient for travelers arriving by train or bus from Athens.
Astakos → Zakynthos
A less-known route from the small port of Astakos in Aitoloakarnania, useful as an alternative during peak season.
Tips for Travelers
- Book early in summer — July and August ferries sell out quickly, especially for vehicles
- Check schedules — Winter service is reduced; Kyllini is the only year-round route
- Compare prices on Ferryhopper or direct with Levante Ferries
- Arrive early — Boarding typically begins 30-45 minutes before departure
- Vehicle reservations are recommended June through September
What’s New for 2026
Levante Ferries has published updated schedules for the 2025-2026 season with optimized departure times. The expansion of routes from Astakos and improved connections to Kefalonia make island-hopping in the Ionian Islands more accessible than ever.
With Zakynthos Airport closed for runway upgrades from February 2-16, the ferry from Kyllini is the primary access route during that period.
